REfract // The Words and Images of Tai Nan Street

The rise of neon signs and typography trends in Hong Kong recent years reflects an increased awareness of urban aesthetics, while also highlighting a growing focus on the preservation and transmission of local culture. What was once an unconscious presence has now evolved into a conscious effort of cherish and conserve, even leading to a spontaneous intervention.

Tai Nan Street in Sham Shui Po has undergone significant transformation in the past five years, it becomes a vibrant neighbourhood with a mixture of the new and old shops and cultures. I observed the interactions between old and new shops, different generations, and people from various backgrounds and social strata. Through her lens, she captures the complexity and vitality of this community.
